There may be cases where you will want to manually edit an alignment to travel along a different street, through a parking lot, or to correct for errors using Autogenerate.
Edit an Existing Alignment
Navigate to Map View and select Alignments. If you know the location of the Alignment that needs edits, zoom in on the map and click the Alignment. If you know which two Stop the Alignment is in between, use the Zoom to Alignment drop-down menu to narrow your field of view. Click on the desired segment and choose Edit Segment.
The selected Alignment will be highlighted in yellow. New segment points can be created by clicking anywhere along the Alignment and current segment points can be deleted by clicking on them. Dragging part of an alignment along a different path of travel will automatically create a new point. Once you've made changes to an Alignment, click Save Segment at the bottom of the Alignment Options Menu.
Move Between Alignments
You can quickly move between Alignments when using "Zoom to Alignment" by pressing J (to move to the preceding Alignment) and L (to move to the next Alignment.)
Delete an Alignment
Deleting an Alignment will remove any segments between two stops, returning the Alignment to a straight, red line. This may be necessary to redo Autogenerate.
If you wish to remove all points along an Alignment instead of deleting it, you can select Clear Segment Points instead.
Multi-select Segment Points
If part of the Alignment needs to change, but not the whole Alignment, you can multi-select Segment Points by holding down shift+ dragging a rectangle using a mouse or trackpad:
Once multi-selected, that part of the Alignment can:
- Clear those Segment Points by hitting Delete (Mac) or Backspace (PC)
- Autogenerate
- Simplify. If an Alignment has too many Segment Points (may cause issues with other software tools, like GIS), using Simplify will reduce the number of extra Segment Points. Simplify generally does not work on very large Alignments or parts of Alignments, so it should be used in connection with multi-selection.
Set Custom Override and System-Wide Segments
Since Alignments are reproduced any time two Stops are used in the same sequence in a Stop Pattern, you may need to create a separate Alignment for special services or when a vehicle travels on a different path for a given Stop Pattern (different Alignments are not available for different Timed Patterns, only different Stop Patterns.)
Selecting Set as Custom Override will ensure that only this Alignment is changed, for this Stop Patterns (and other Stop Patterns will remain untouched.)
Custom Overrides are shown as a teal color to differentiate from system-wide green segments.
To return an Alignment to the same Alignment used elsewhere, select Use System-Wide Alignment.
Solo Alignment and Hide/View System Stops
If you need to visually remove other Alignments to make your edits, select Solo this Alignment to hide extraneous Alignments from view during edits.

Can you add to this article what happens after you "Save Alignment"? I've done my edits and saved, however, I don't know what is done next or when I can expect to see the changes on our website. Thank you!
Hi Megan -- After you've made changes to alignments or other aspects of your GTFS data, you will need to request an export by clicking the green "Request Feed Export and Publish" button on the main GTFS Manager dashboard. This notifies Trillium that changes are ready to be published to Google and other such applications. After the data has been republished, alignment changes will update within a few hours on your website and within 2-4 days on Google Maps and other such applications.
