Headsigns are used in Patterns to provide direction and/or destination information to riders.
Headsigns Overview
Create, Edit or Delete a Headsign
Headsigns are accessible from the Agency Dashboard
The Headsigns Dashboard lists all available Headsigns. By default, Headsigns are sorted by ID but can also be sorted by label (name.) You can also Filter your list.
Create a Headsign
Headsigns can be created by clicking Add a Headsign. The only editable value of a Headsign is its label (name.)
Edit a Headsign
A Headsign can be renamed by selecting its label and changing the name.
Note: Changing a Headsign's label may affect multiple Stop Patterns and/or Timed Patterns. If unsure about where a Headsign is used, create a new one instead.
Delete a Headsign
Headsigns can only be deleted when not used in any Stop Patterns and/or Timed Patterns. It must first be removed or replaced on all Stop Patterns and/or Timed Patterns before it can be deleted by selecting the red "x" to the right of the Headsign's label.
Add a Headsign to a Route
Headsigns can only be added to Routes via Stop Patterns and Timed Patterns.

Best Practices
Headsigns can be a useful bridge for riders between a Route's name and a rider's intended destination.
- By Destination: A Headsign that informs the rider of the next recognizable destination. For single-direction Routes, this may be the end of the line. For Loops, this may be the next destination of several.
- By Direction: A Headsign that informs the rider of the direction of travel, such as Northbound, Inbound, or Clockwise.
- Additional Information: For Routes that already have a short name and long name, but have additional information (such as via) that changes during the course of the day. Example: Route 1: Sussex has several different runs during the day, including one Via Route 9 and one Via Route 9D. The information "Via Route 9" and "Via Route 9D" can be expressed in the Headsign for those Stop Patterns.
